In partnership with the PENTATONE label and Nordic Artists Management, the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra is set to launch the new Danish International Cello Competition next year.
The competition is designed to support young cellists’ careers as elite artists and will offer prospective candidates the chance to compete for cash prizes totalling €27,000, as well as international concerts, an international album release, mentorship, and artist management.
Open to cellists of all nationalities up to the age of 30, the Danish International Cello Competition will provide the first prize winner the opportunity to release a debut album on PENTATONE with the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra.
First prize also includes the Larsen Strings Prize, which will offer a career development package including a €14,000 cash award, 10 concert engagements with leading European orchestras, and mentorship from cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and renowned teacher Trudy Wright.
The winner will also benefit from a three-year collaboration with Nordic Artists Management and status as a Larsen Performing Artist.
PENTATONE will be welcoming the inaugural winner of the new competition to the label in 2028.

“Our partnership with Pentatone makes the Danish International Cello Competition something truly special from day one,” says Nordic Artists Management CEO Jacob Soelberg. “It creates a unique opportunity for the winner to take a significant step onto the international stage and begin building a lasting global career. We are particularly excited to collaborate with Pentatone on shaping the album’s repertoire. Our ambition is not simply to produce another recording of the Dvořák Cello Concerto, but to create an artistic statement that reflects the individuality, vision, and personality of the talented musician behind it.”
“As part of PENTATONE’s ongoing commitment to nurturing tomorrow’s great artists, we are pleased to announce our collaboration with the Danish International Cello Competition,” adds Sean Hickey, Managing Director of PENTATONE. “This will provide opportunities for these award-winning cellists to realize their best recorded work on one of the world’s leading independent labels, and for PENTATONE to cultivate relationships with artists aligned with the label’s vision. We will work closely with each artist on program selection and execution as well as recording and release strategy. We look forward to introducing and promoting some of the future’s finest cellists to the world.”
